York JV Hockey Moving on to Final Four for Chicago Metropolitan High School Scholastic Cup, while also entering Sweet 16 for State | Print |

While working toward the state's Blackhawk Cup, York also earned their spot in Metro's coveted semi-finals for the Chicago Metro High School Scholastic Cup.  Taking first in Metro-West presented them the opportunity to compete in Chicago's all metro play-offs. Only the top 2 teams in each Metro area get this chance.  Sunday February 22nd, York met Metro-Central's 2nd place team - Crystal Lake South at All Seasons Ice Arena.  Both teams recognized this was a single elimination game and displayed this knowledge on the ice. Game on!

York's JV quickly bombarded CL's goalie with shots. It took almost 10 minutes to put one on the board, but well-earned it was.   Assisted by Adam Kosecki, Brad Johnson fired one in after applying pressure upon pressure wearing the opposition down.  Brad was not to be denied.  Alex Carson continued to stun the goalie with his moves.  He was denied, but fans knew eventually "it's gonna happen". Matt Bogdanowicz skated strong and sent a pass over to his brother Jon.  He was able to cut around his opponent, send it over to Justin Schwarz who took a shot on goal, only to be denied, much to the shock of the fans.  CL managed to steal a pass, upsetting York's captain John Peterson sending him chasing after the thief so fast and hard he layed out to block the shot and shook the boards with his effort.  Despite this incredible effort, CL managed to put one up, tying the game at one apiece.

The 2nd period was the goalies time to shine. With an estimated 20 shots on CL's goalie, he almost single-handedly kept them in this game.  Jeremy Fisher Haase "Fish" had some of his best saves of the season for York, keeping York strong through-out. Both goalies reflected a clear understanding of what was on the line. Both held their opponents scoreless through the second.

It was in the third period York was able to light it up.  Carson changed the momentum as he deaked passed his opponents, saw the opening to pass to Adam Kosecki and Kosecki then hit the upper corner giving York the lead again.  Adam Hilgenkamp provided the assist needed to Dalton Osmanski who put the third on the board with his precise shot.  The barrier was finally broken and York continued moving in.  As CL pulled their goalie, the pressure mounted.  "Fish" denied them at every turn.  With each subsequent shot, rebound and more shots, it was his glove save late in the game that made everyone sigh in relief. Then, the threat Fish stopped and slapped away, causing him to flip over the opponent, gave Fish an assist of his own as Sean Delaney connected with the pass and sent it on to Carson for the empty netter exclamation point of the game.

This win puts them in the semi-final for the Chicago Metro H.S. Scholastic Cup. Go Dukes!
