Matt Boeing

Hockey Director & Varsity Head Coach

Matthew Boeing, also known as Coach Boe, has been helping build and be a part of the York Hockey family since 2014. His coaching journey began at the age of 16 with the Hornets Sled Hockey team and Diversity Hockey while he was actively playing for the Blues Midget Minor CSDHL team. This early experience ignited a passion for coaching and working with athletes, a path he has pursued with dedication and success.

Matthew's playing career saw him compete in Central States and AAA hockey until he aged out at his U18 year. During this time, he forged valuable connections in the junior hockey world, particularly with the Peoria Mustangs Tier 3 team. Simultaneously, he pursued his academic interests at Elmhurst College, earning a degree in education and a minor in health, along with a personal training certificate.

After five years of teaching, Matthew furthered his qualifications with master’s degrees in educational leadership and teacher leadership."Having an academic background has really transformed the way I look at hockey"

Residing in Carol Stream with his wife, Carly, and their son, Hudson. 

Coach Boe's professional job is a school dean.

Nick Albergo

Assistant Varsity Black Coach

Nicholas Albergo, also known as Coach Bergs, has been with the York Hockey Club for eight years. Nicholas returned to coach his Alma Mater (graduated York in 2011) after his playing career. Nicholas grew up playing for the Chicago Blues where he is now considered a Distinguished Alumni. After the Blues, Nicholas made the transition to the York Hockey Club where he was a two time All-State Showcase member as well as 2011 High School Hockey Player of the Year. He went on to play Junior Hockey for the Chicago Steel, Janesville Jets, and Dells Ducks.  Ultimately, he ended his career playing college hockey at NCAA DIII St. Mary’s University in the MIAC. Nicholas currently lives in Elmhurst with his Mini Dachshund, Wrigley.

Nicholas has been a vital member of the coaching staff. He was brought on as a Varsity Assistant for his first season before moving to JV assistant coach for the next three seasons. This is now his 4th consecutive year in the varsity assistant role. As a JV Assistant coach the team won three consecutive SHL Championships in 2019, 2020, and 2021. In 2020, the JV hockey team solidified the number one ranked team in the state of Illinois. The last two years he has helped coach our varsity team to two state finals.

Nick Fina

Assistant Varsity Black Coach

Nick Fina is the newest member to the Varsity Black staff for the 2024-25 season. Coach Fina currently holds a Level 5 USA Hockey coaching certification and has been a USA Hockey certified coach for 15 years. Prior to joining the York Hockey family, Nick has held director and coaching roles with the Flames, Admirals, and Bruins hockey clubs. In addition to his time in tier II youth hockey, he served as an assistant coach with the Robert Morris University – IL hockey program while pursuing and obtaining his MBA.

Nick grew up playing youth hockey for the Chicago Flames out of Center Ice of DuPage. After youth hockey, he joined the former Chicago Force junior program out of West Meadows Ice Arena. During his second season at the Force, his teammates voted him their team captain and was selected to the league’s all-star team to play against top from other junior leagues across the United States. Following junior hockey, Nick played collegiately at RMU-IL on their ACHA DI team and helped lead the team to two national tournament appearances during his junior and senior years. His time at RMU-IL helped him gain a much greater understanding of skill development and team dynamics, which helped drive his passion for teaching and coaching.

Nick currently resides in Glen Ellyn with his wife, Katie, and three children and considers himself a “lifelong rink rat.”

Varsity White Coaching Staff

Brian Finnerty

Varsity Black Head Coach

This will be Brian’s ninth season with York Hockey Club and first year coaching our Varsity White team. In his nine years with York, he has led the JV team to three consecutive State and Scholastic Hockey League finals (2022-2024), winning Back-to-Back State Championships (2023,2024) and SHL Championship in 2023. Additionally, he was the JV Head coach for two seasons before moving into a varsity assistant role in 2018, until transitioning back into the JV head coach position in 2021. Before joining York, he was with Waubonsie Warriors Hockey club for eight years as JV Head coach and Varsity assistant coach. During his time with Waubonsie, his teams won multiple regular season and playoff championships, as well as two State Championships in 2014 (Varsity Combined division) and 2016 (JV Combined division.) He also spent one year as a varsity assistant coach at Neuqua Valley.

Brian grew up in Naperville playing for the Sabres and attended Neuqua Valley High School where he gathered All-State recognition as a Senior. He currently resides in Oak Park with his wife Kelly and two sons, Owen and Silas.

Collin Stasica

Varsity Black Assistant Coach

Collin's hockey journey began with the Jr. Hawks, progressing through the Chiefs and Bruins before concluding with a 4-year standout career at York High School, where he graduated in 2019. As a team captain under Coach Finnerty, Collin demonstrated exceptional leadership and showcased his offensive skills during York's transition into the SHL.

After graduating, Collin pursued higher education at the University of Iowa, earning a degree from the Tippie College of Business with a minor in Sports Recreation Management. He obtained coaching credentials in both Iowa and Illinois, along with certifications in basic first aid and CPR, highlighting his commitment to player safety and development.

Collin's coaching career started on a high note, winning the JV state title in his first season as an assistant coach. His extensive playing experience, combined with his leadership abilities and academic achievements, uniquely qualify him to mentor and develop future York hockey talents.

JV Head Coach

Coach Lee's journey in hockey began with his youth experiences playing for the Blues and Chiefs, which shaped his passion and deepened his understanding of the game. These formative years set the stage for a standout high school career at York, where he dedicated four seasons to perfecting his skills and served as an assistant captain. His athletic journey continued at Benedictine University, where he played four years of baseball, gaining valuable insights into team dynamics and sportsmanship.

Four years ago, Coach Lee transitioned into coaching, starting as an assistant coach and quickly making an impact. With the support of a talented coaching staff, he celebrated major achievements, including the 2022-2023 SHL Championship and State Championship titles. As he begins his second year as head coach, Coach Lee is dedicated to cultivating a culture of excellence, skill development, and camaraderie among his players.

Anthony Trankina

JV Assitant Coach

Anthony began his hockey career at The YMCA, played for both The Chiefs & The Blues, leading himself to York Hockey where he played 3 seasons as a Duke. Anthony was a team captain under now Varsity Head Coach Matt Boeing during his first season with the program. 

After graduating from York in 2017, Anthony went to Roosevelt University where he pursued his Masters Degree in Marketing Communications. He also skated for The Roosevelt Lakers ACHA D1 & D2 team during his time in college.

Anthony joined the program as an Assistant Coach in the spring of 2023. During his first season he helped lead JV White to victory in the 2023 North Central JV Sliver Championship. His genuine passion for the game of hockey and commitment to the growth of young players align perfectly with our clubs culture & values.
